The Ninth Wave formed in the burgeoning Glasgow scene in 2018, coming up alongside an array of exciting new bands that together created a palpable buzz and excitement around the musical output of both the city and Scotland as a whole. As well as being heavily involved in their scene, the band have always strived to do things their own way; from launching their debut single with a secret gig in an abandoned railway arch near The Laurieston, the pub in which they hatched many of their first plans, to crafting a totally singular sound, The Ninth Wave are a band that have never been afraid to do exactly what they want to do.

The band came bursting onto the scene with a sound that was both melancholic and emotionally charged, while at the same time ready for bigger stages. Since then, The Ninth Wave have released 3 EP’s and two albums, two of which were shortlisted for Scottish Album of the Year Award, with their debut album winning an AIM award. 

After supporting bands such as CHVRCHES, Editors and Suede, touring Europe and the USA and selling out tours across the UK, their reputation as a formidable live act has been firmly cemented. Their live performances are visceral, euphoric and have a feeling of urgency; the band mean what they write and this connects deeply with their fans. 

Having recently signed to fellow Glaswegian band Mogwai’s legendary record label Rock Action Records, The Ninth Wave end their near-5 year hiatus. The past year has seen the band regroup - childhood friends and co-frontpersons Haydn and Amelia, alongside bandmates Calum and Kyalo, the four members have spent the last year creating a new and refreshing sound, with the band choosing to approach the recording process of their new music in a rawer, more immediate way.
