Mogwai's Barry Burns scores soundtrack to award winning documentary "Everybody to Kenmure Street"

Mogwai’s Barry Burns today releases the score to the award winning new film "Everybody To Kenmure Street", available to stream and download via Rock Action Records.

The film is directed by Felipe Bustos Sierra; executive produced by two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson, multiple BAFTA nominee Hugh Bonneville and Mark Thomas for Screen Scotland; and produced by barry crerar. It opens in cinemas across the UK and Ireland today, released by Conic.

The "Everybody To Kenmure Street" OST features 15 new songs composed by Burns, alongside a cover of Lee Hazlewood’s "Your Sweet Love", performed by Burns with the vocals of Scottish singer/songwriters Rachel Sermanni and Alana Rae. The title track, "Kenmure Street", features Glasgow’s oldest choir, the Glasgow Gaelic Musical Association, singing in both Gaelic and Urdu. The score was recorded with producer and engineer Tony Doogan at Castle of Doom studios in Glasgow.

"Everybody To Kenmure Street" follows the events of 13 May 2021 after a UK Home Office dawn raid in the Glasgow area of Pollokshields, which prompted local residents to rush to the streets and engage in an 8-hour stand-off with the police to prevent the removal of their neighbours.

In the early morning of Eid celebrations in Pollokshields, one of the most diverse neighbourhoods in Glasgow, two men were removed from their homes and placed in an immigration enforcement van. As word spread about the raid, neighbours and protestors started to gather at the site, soon swelling to hundreds of people, surrounding the van and making the streets impassable. The spontaneous act of peaceful civil defiance was documented live on social media and soon drew the attention of the press, making national and international headlines.

To document the events of the day, Felipe Bustos Sierra employs a mix of crowd-sourced footage alongside archive film and re-enacted set-pieces captured by cinematographer Kirstin McMahon, featuring actors relaying verbatim the testimonies of protestors and locals who wished to remain anonymous.

"Everybody To Kenmure Street" received its World Premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this month, winning the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for Civil Resistance, before opening the 22nd edition of Glasgow Film Festival.

About Rock Action Records

The Mogwai owned and run Glasgow-based record label Rock Action Records was originally created as a way for the band to release their own music, and, like the band that birthed it, has continued to grow and thrive, and has since become a successful home for a diverse range of artists, whilst remaining fiercely independent.

From the very beginning the label has operated with an ethos that not only reflects the independent spirit of its owners but chimes with the DIY scene that has defined Glasgow through the eras, and made it one of the most celebrated musical cities in the world. Rock Action has gone on to release more than 150 records from local and international artists, and supported notable Scottish independent acts including Mogwai, Arab Strap, The Twilight Sad, Kathryn Joseph, Cloth, Sacred Paws, Errors and Remember Remember.
